DooM II Launcher WussHelp file
A: This text box shows your IP address. You can copy it to the
clipboard by simply highlighting it, right clicking, and hitting
copy. Or, you can highlight it and hit control+c. If you're on
dialup and don't feel like running the program again, you can
hit the 'Refresh IP' button and get your new IP address.
If you aren't connected to the internet when you run the program
or when you hit Refresh IP, you should get a winsock error. If
it crashes or something else happens, let me know.
B: Even though it says DooM II Directory, what it really needs is
zDooM or the DooM II executable file. I haven't tested this program
with anything other than ZDooM running DooM II, though, so any errors
that happen, I'd be glad to know about them.
You can hit the Browse button if you don't feel like typing.
C and D: This applies to the whole column of check boxes. If you want to
host a game, then you can check the 'Host' box (Join will be unchecked
automatically) and choose how many players (including yourself) you are
hosting for. I haven't tested with more than two (me and another), so
I don't even know how well zDooM works with any more than that.
Load game : Check this and choose which slot you want to load from
if you wish to have a game loaded on startup. Note that when you
save a network game, it saves on everybody's computer in the slot
you chose.
Episode : I don't know if ZDooM runs DooM I, but if it does, here.
Oh, and the level names won't be right for anything but DooM II.
Skill : 1 - 5. From I'm Too Young To Die to Nightmare, the eight second
monster respawning mess.
DUP (zDooM) : For multiplayer, this is how many player movements are
not sent. So, two is every other one. And two is good.
Max Demo : Sets the max demo size.
Custom Config : The path and filename of any custom configuration files
you want to run. Don't worry about it not showing up in the command
line box immediately - the paths are shortened to DOS length, which
it doesn't do until the whole directory is written in. If the whole
thing IS written and it isn't showing it all, you typoed somewhere.
E: To join a game, check this box and write your host's IP address
(for network games, computer names might work - unsure).
F: Multiplayer Gameplay Options:
DeathMatch : Marine VS Marine Free For All.
Alternate DeathMatch : Marine Free For All, suicides take a frag off,
negative frags are possible, and all items respawn after thirty seconds.
No Monsters : Duh. You may want this enabled for DeathMatch games, unless
you want to be killing monsters too.
Fast Monsters : Disabled if 'no monsters' - fight monsters that run
six hundred and sixty six laps a day.
Monsters Respawn : Monsters respawn after 8 seconds. You don't need
this if you're on Nightmare.
G: Warp Map - Type a number, 1-32? here. What's really nice is that
the level name will come up, unless you're running a custom .wad.
H: File/No File - Run a .wad of your own. It'll ask you if it's an
IWAD. I don't know what IWADs are myself, but most user made .wads
aren't. If you want to do more than one .wad, simply type it in at
the end of the line. Hit 'no file' to save yourself the trouble of
deleting the whole thing. The path and file names are shortened to
DOS-length, so if you type the whole thing and nothing shows up,
you typoed.
I: The command line box. You can edit this yourself if you want.
J: This button brings up the IP list, which has its own little help
image.
K: This saves all your options to the registry (because it's easy
for ME! I don't care if you can't find out how to edit it-you can
do that from the program!). Current User / Software / Microsoft
Visual Basic 6.0 / DoomII_Launch, I think is where you can find them.
L: I dont even know why I lettered the exit button.
M: Click here to launch with the current settings! Hooray!
A: This shows the IPs you have saved, sorted. When you click one,
it will put the information in the text boxes for easy editing. So
you can click one, edit the information, save it back, and remove the
old one.
B: Sort #: Used so you can determine the order that the IPs are
listed in the box.
IP Address: The actual IP address you want to save.
Comments: Any comments you want to save, such as whose IP it is, etc.
C: Remove Selected : Click here to remove the selected IP address.
Save : Click to add the three text boxes to the list.
Close : Closes the window (No sh*t, Sherlock. Keep digging, Watson!)
D: The warning : No, there is no way to connect to more than one computer
at once without re running the program and starting another copy of doom.
Copy To Join Box : Copies the text in the IP Address box to the join
field on the main page.
Well, that's it. I hope you enjoyed, I spent a whole ten minutes on this.
