Based on the Region 2 DVD box art of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill: Volume 1”; everything except the artwork is copyrighted to their respective owners, with massive heapings of apologies. I hope Miramax doesn’t mind my parodying their logo; I felt self-conscious enough just plastering my name over the image as it is.

Anyway, I did this one on a lark. The inspiration? The advertisement where Uma Thurman goes in a very throaty/ominous voice: “I am gonna kill Bill.” Out of the blue my mind cobbled up a soundbyte of Sango saying, “I am gonna kill Naraku” in her CN dub voice, complete with the American pronounciation of “Naraku”. So out of that bit of subliminal weirdness came this CG.

This marks the first cel-type coloring I’ve done since the “Christmas” CG, which made the process for making this a whole lot less complicated. The entire thing was one huge composition: I had different layer sets for the background, for Sango, for the “screenshots” of Miroku and the others, for the text, and even for all the little logos and warning labels at the bottom (which I drew right on the screen with the original box info as reference). All in all, though, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be; the most difficult part was just finding the time to put them all together.

It was kind of a kick shoehorning the characters into the whole “Kill Bill” franchise: setting Sango up as the Bride was a no-brainer, as was Kagome as Go-Go Yubari (schoolgirl outfit? Check. Mace? Well, not really, but what the hell). I made Inuyasha Johnny Mo just so that I could draw him with that mask; Miroku was harder to pin down, but in the end I, oddly enough, relegated him to the the role of Bill (who, if the title is any indication, should have been Naraku, but Miroku just fit the part better, I think). Well, “Kill Bill” is a love story. Kinda.
